Wow. What a great night!! I haven't felt more uplifted and positive in so many years. Barack Obama's post-election speech tonight from Chicago left me with nothing less than chills, teary eyes, and hope for our country. I'm so optimistic for change in America. Change was needed, and we are headed in the right direction. Finally.
My favorite quote from Barack's speech tonight:
"It’s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled – Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America."
Just hearing him speak the word "gay" to the world gave me so much hope for my own future; hope that I never had before. I may not get married anytime soon, but I know that over his next four years in office, Barack Obama will help me get to the places I want to be in life, equal to everyone else in this country. Able to adopt a child and raise them with many of the same wonderful values and morals instilled in me by my own parents; able to afford health care for myself and my loved ones; able to be defended by hate crime legislation for gay men and women who have never been protected in the past; able to express my love for someone and have it recognized legally.
Two more months and Ol' Bushy is history. We now have to figure out how to get ourselves out of the messes that have overtaken our country in so many different ways. I'm so excited for the next four years!
